Nature Red in Tooth and Claw
I love it where I live. I can't see another house from my house. In fact, from most places anywhere on our property, I can't see anyone else. When I go to the mailbox, I can see my neighbor - and once the leaves fall it's possible to catch the occasional glimpse through the bare tree trunks of her husband's truck going in or out of their driveway.
From my home I can see birds, animals, wildflowers, toads, turtles, trees - - - all the things that country life promised. Each morning, I start my day by opening the door and stepping out into this little paradise with my dog, (who would appreciate it more if she weren't terrified of butterflies.)
This morning I stepped outside and Ewwwwwww! A skunk has been in the neighborhood. So now I'm holding my nose and hoping that Simone will hurry with her business. I didn't look where I was stepping and Ewwwwwwww! Mouse guts. And Ewwwwwwww! next to the mouse guts - a little mouse skull, compliments of one of the cats.

Country life sounds great..mouse guts and all...and you dog is afraid of butterflies?? that is so funny!
Solitude does have it's prices..ha ha.
Awww, your cats wuv you!
Oh! This reminds me so much of where I grew up! Our closest neighbors were about a mile away. Summer berries, fern groves, deer and plenty of places to explore. We had cat gifts too, and sometimes the dog would haul part of a deer carcass down from the mountain. Yum.
Butterflies? That's a little strange... However, I would love the country life...
Do you mind I'm eating
hehehe!! NO, actually i'm not eating, but EWWWWWW anyway!!
Yuck! That is just gross Terri!
Our cats leave presents too, but I yet to step on one...EWWWWY.
Your place sounds absolutely wonderful. My mom lives out in the boon-docs. I love going up there and enjoying the solitude. Being closer to nature, to me, is peaceful.
Enjoy you view hun,
(My boy is Caleb Michael.... too funny)
Isn't it nice that the cats leave gifts for you by the door. How sweet
My hubby calls skunks, Peppermint pussy cats. Why, I don't know.
Do you think Tim would mind if I came to work in my comfy pjs? I have some footie pajamas that are muy comfy. :+) Your house sounds awesome being all secluded. When you started talking about the leaves falling it totally made me smile. I can't wait for fall and the weather to be cooler...football season. Ahhhhhh, that's nice. Thanks for the image!
Oh my! I would have just died!! I guess you will have the pros and cons of country living anywhere! You know what? I have never seen a skunk before either! Well, except on TV!
I always love a good mouse story. Thanks!
I grew up in the country and miss it much sometimes.
You've got to take the good with the bad!
Felines sometimes give odd gifts! Ewww! My mom lives out like that... it's like going to camp when you go to her house! Love it!
Sounds nice. Your place, I mean. I hit a cat on my way home from church last night. Stupid thing just dashed right in front of me. *sigh* Thanks for the come back. Sounds like you are saying that Manifest Destiny had it's roots in Calvinist thought. Sic? Non?
The country side is the heavens but there are also some skunks !

Mouse guts! Yikes!
God Bless - Dale
Lucky you! We've had skunks this summer too, and several mice in the house. I can handle them in a trap, but I don't think I'd take too kindly to little presents like that. Yucky!
Your home sounds wonderful.
The wonders of nature and all it's gifts...I still remember the lizard that came in and hid under the upright piano we used to have! I have never done well with the darting things in nature
There they go again. Those cats getting all the credit for my hard work.
LOL....
Yuck! that is quite a story there
The joys of country living do have a few setbacks

I was thrilled to see you subscribed to me , Thank you.
HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA! This is a hoot! I always have dreamed (and continue to dream) of living in the country. But...somehow I envision what you described w/the skunk and the mouse guts...add that to my dance of the spider web and I know I'd be jumping at shadows. Still...I think I could learn to live with it.
Your dog's afraid of butterflies? Heh. Heh-heh. Heh-heh-heh-heh! Too much...!!!
Sigh. If I could get out of this hellish town I'd move in w/ a skunk.
