  • You wouldn't think that Mexican food would be directly related to transmission fluid.  But the connection was too strong to deny last night. - Let me back up.  On Monday, I experienced some inconvenience when the transmission in my van just kind of blew up.  One minute I was driving along, the next minute there was a loss of transmission.  Smoke was pouring our from under the van, fluid was bleeding all over the road.  It was bad.

But, it gave me the opportunity to speak with a person that I know mostly through Tim.  bbell1973 was answering the phone in Tim's office when I called to tell him that he'd need to come straight home instead of going to the gym.  So I had a lovely chat with a person who said all kinds of nice ego-building things about my writing here at quiltnmomi.  Thanks Barry!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to wait while the local dealership service department went over the van trying to find our what happened.  I hate waiting.  I especially hate waiting when money is involved.  The longer it took for them to call, the more expensive I imagined the fix woudl be.

I had my customary diet coke for breakfast, but my lunchtime, I was so tense that I not only didn't eat, it never occurred to me to eat anything.  So when they finally told me that it was just a HOSE! and that the repair was going to cost about $100 - I was so happy that I threw myself a little dance party.  Still, it never occurred to me that I should eat lunch.

So last night, when Tim and I went to pick up the van (they washed it too, so we had to drive aroudn the block a couple times looking at all the vehicles before we recognized it - thank God the boys' still had bicylces, water noodles, and month old chese curls on the floor or we might still e trying to figure out which one was ours) I was happy to agree to his suggestion that we have dinner at the Tumbleweed.  Kids eat free on Tuesday which makes my cheap little heart glad.

So last night, I wallowed in enchiladas and cheese dip, refried beans, and mexican rice.  I slurped down diet coke (because everyone knows that diet coke has the ability to cancel calories out of regular food) and when we got home, we decided that we couldn't think of a better time to open that bottle of cheap champagne we've been saving for almost four days.

I've never had a transmission problem that was repairable for less than $1000.  I'm still happy this morning.

  • I love these:  "a loss of transmission" and "here at quiltnmomi" and bestest of all, "that bottle of cheap champagne we've been saving for almost four days".

    *clinkofglass*  Cheers.

  • it's not a Caravan, is it?  we lost ours b/c of the transmission.  i miss it still.

dang...i could use a good enchillada wallow right about now.  hmmm...maybe Thursday night i'll do that.

  • To my recollection, tryptophan was taken out of circulation a few years back because of contamination after a death. It is available again now. I cannot speak from experience about the drug industry trying to control its use...but from what I have read about the FDA recently, it would not surprise me at all. (Those people have all got an axe to grind about alternative treatments.) I read about someone who had some form of herbal treatment to help cancer patients - they tried to control it...the researcher wasn't going for having it controlled by the FDA - and they made sure that it never saw the light of day. (That oganisation is riddled with corruption.) I wasn't aware of their history until a few people came on my site insulting my intelligence - I'm glad that they made me aware of my ignorance...at least where the FDA is concerned.

All roads lead to Rome, I guess...

  • Ahhhh, lucky, lucky!  Aren't those wonderful words - "it's just a hose"!!

  • The transmission was what doomed my last car. The repair cost more than the value of the car. I love that Mexican food but can't find any good places since I moved to the Midwest.

  • After reading your post I have been overtaken by an undeniable urge for mexican food - I called my husband and told him that his life would be much less "complicated" in the immediate future if he would come and take me to lunch ..... he should be here in a few minutes!!

  • Sounds like a wonderful reason to celebrate!

  • you do write good blogs....hey and I am glad your car repair was not that major or expensive.  I know how you feel....

  • that happiness is dancing all over your page too

  • When I first read this post I was trying to make the connection in my head before I read on and all I could come up with was 'flush'... you know you flush your trans and you uh flush... after you eat Mexican

  • I'd lose my car too if somebody washed it except for the brightest blue paint you could imagine would shine through... hard to miss then.

  • lol @ "saving for four days."  oh the fear that curdles my heart when I think of car trouble.  Almost as badly the thought of the heartburn that would inevitably follow such a meal.  (of course with diet coke--once you go diet, you never go back.  those saccharine nazis have made addicts of us.)

  • ROFL!  Congratulations on your broken down van!  Hmm... that didn't sound quite right, but you know what I mean.

And let me say what a pleasure it was to talk to you on the phone as well.  Any nice things I had to say about your writing actually pale in comparison to your talent!

  • The vehicle fairy smiled on you today. Congrats!

  • That's what I had go wrong with mine, but after the hose pops off for the 5th time and you have to drive it a mile with no fluid to go GET some fliud, it doesn't like you and throws gears.  *breathe*   Um, yeah, that was a bit of a run-on...

Glad it all worked out for you, but $100 for a hose?  That's madness!  You can get the hose at your local auto parts store for less than $5 and all you have to do to put it on is screw down some clamps! I'm just so used to doing it all myself I don't realize how much money people are making off mechanic work...

Mexican?  That sounds like a plan for today.. I like it more than it likes me, though..

  • So you're saying that Maggie has a lonnnnnng history, huh?
