  • Inclement Weather

    Update the Last (Sure Right!)

    DSC03176a

The results of my afternoon are done.  Freshly baked bread and beef stew.  There are MANY worse things than being snowed in.  Many many worse things.

    Update 3 ... still snowing ...

    UPdate Part 2 ...

Every now and then I see an SUV move up the street, but all those of us who have been making fun of the gas guzzlers are stuck at home.

We're forced to wear our fleecy pajamas, drink coffee/cocoa, finish reading that book, and just generally feeling all ashamed of ourselves for our lack of foresight while our wiser neighbors are going to work.  Yep.  They showed us.

... I just heard Michael on the phone explaining that we didn't know about the weather coming because we aren't old enough.  "Only old people get the weather channel."

I feel a board game coming on.

    Update:  More Pics ...

    DSC03169 DSC03167

Taken at 7:10 - about an hour and a half after the first photos.

You know it's really bad when ... D11 closes shop.  Today and tomorrow were already "no school" days for the boys.  It was the Fall parent/teacher conference thing.  But since I've already conferred with about everyone who could possibly be involved with my kids, I didn't have one scheduled.  It's just as well.  When I woke this morning I had an email informing me that ALL D11 schools and administrative offices were closed for inclement weather.

You have to know that in this town every other district will close or at least put on a two hour delay for several inches of overnight snowfall, but to the dismay of Tucker (and thousands of other kids) not HIS school district.  Michael doesn't seem to care so much.  He just goes along with the program.

Well, today they decided the weather is inclement enough.

    You Are Sunrise
You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary.
You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward.
Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts.
All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be.

"Now goblins are cruel, wicked, and bad-hearted.  They make no beautiful things, but they make many clever ones.  Its not unlikely that they invented some of the machines that have since troubled the world, especially ingenious devices for killing large numbers of people at once, for wheels and engines and explosions always delighted them, and also not working with their own hands more than they could help ..."  The Hobbit, J R R Tolkien

  • i saw the snow and wondered what the hell you were talking about, then i remembered--Colorado--so it figures

RYC---Isn't it amazing that Darfur is RELEVANT for about six weeks every two years...politically expedient???  Reminds me of the days when the Taliban were our friends as they burnt down Buddhist temples and destroyed the historic carvings in the mountains

  • I saw that on the news this morning and though about you!  WOW...you're getting dumped on!

  • WOW....that's a brush with fame!  My pale face is so excited!

  • Beautiful!!!!  But I'm glad it's not us yet!  Guess this means our daughter in Castle Rock is snowed in also.

  • Awesome snow pictures!!! It doesn't snow in my area nearly enough!!!

RYC: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be considering it.

  • Woo hoo!  Looks like a good day to put on fuzzy socks and curl up with a good book or movie.  Or maybe you could play games with the kids or bake cookies.  Or better yet, knock out the boys and go back to bed!

  • Wow! We have no snow yet, which to me seems utterly amazing. There's usually some before halloween.

  • This is so beautiful!! I'm envious. I hope that some good snow days are headed our way too.

  • Came to your very pretty site via the Women of Proverbs 31 blogring.  Most of my extended family is in the Springs over on the West Side, so I'm glad to see the pics here of just what they woke up to this morning!  Wow!  I sure miss the Colorado snows, but I don't know that I'd still feel that way if I was still out there!  Enjoy and travel safe if you have to travel!

  • Look at all that snow!  I am so NOT into snow..it is beautiful and still but I don't enjoy winter that much anymore.

  • It is beautiful to look at, but I'm soooo glad it's you, and not me. Once upon a time I loved winter, but not any longer.

  • Holy cow!  I hope you have stocked up a lot of hot chocolate.

  • WOW!  What an update!

  • excellent pics...

  • I love the snow... it always looks so serene...

and I wouldn't mind some of that yummy looking bread either!

  • Now that looks like fun all around! He he!

  • Oh beautiful pictures. Poor you stuck in the house not having to go to work, with home made bread and beef stew and hot chocolate. LOL. Judi

  • News of your snow reached me all the way over here on the east coast... Looks like you've made the most of it.  I knew you would.

  • Wow!  I just saw your region on the Weather Channel... and tell Michael I ain't that much older than you, LOL!  Pretty bread!  I was just thinking today how it's been a month of Sunday's since I made yeast bread (think I actually should throw the bread flour out, it's so old.)  I hope mine comes out good as yours if I make it.  Hope your power stays on and you guys stay coZy and have fun!  Serendipity... tell Michael that's what it is!

  • Oh wow. Baking bread and having stew to go with it is one of my favorite winter weather meals. It always makes me feel like I've really accomplished something... even if it is the only thing that I get done for the entire day.

  • That's a LOt of snow, I'd be surprised to see any here before late December. great pictures!

  • Ok, I want to move!!! Despite all the obstacles with snow, I love it!!!

  • We had some hard frost this morning...

  • hey, I have 4-wheel drive and I still wouldn't leave the house :)

  • I WANT SNOW I WANT SNOW I WANT SNOW I WANT SNOW I WANT SNOW

  • You may not want to reveal this... but where are you in CO? I'm in a Western suburb of Denver and we got a lot... but looks like you got more! I started out trying to take 15yo to school... had too much trouble so I turned around and came home. He enjoyed the day at home too!

    Teri in CO

  • Terri... we ended up with about 7-8 inches. My best friend lives in the Black Forest... and my 15yo was down in Co Springs yesterday for the state xc meet. The snow is pretty much gone from here. It's nice to "meet" you. My "real" blog is at Sweetbriar Cottage.

  • It was pretty bad 60 miles north of you as well, although all the news kept focusing on Douglas and El Paso counties. Jeffco, despite including the foothills, did not close, so I had an hour-plus drive to work. I got in five minutes before first period started-- they had already scrambled to cover my first three classes, just in case!

  • Just had to let you know I am in love with your pics here - awesome shots!
We are not getting any on the southern valley fo BC yet but further north and on the higher elevations there is a lot too now. (I am quite happy LOL as I am not into snow in my immediate area) As for going out in it, just have to wait for the snow ploughs LOL then your car should be just fine. Meanwhile I see you are making it a fun time at home with some great cooking - that bread just makes my mouth water, nothing like homemade!
