  • Up Your Nose With A . . .

You all know that kids do things that adults don't understand.  When we were kids, Madeline used to do this thing that is still discussed at big family gatherings.  She would put a dry bean in her nose, then she'd do a fake "sneeze" and shoot the bean out to "gross out" the unsuspecting.  On one particular occasion, she put the bean in her nose, only to discover that her intended victim had wandered off.

So she waited, and waited.  When she finally got her chance she did the big kerchoo and . . . nothing happened.  The inside of a nostril is a moist environment and the dry bean had swelled.  After several consultations with the adults, and much huffing and puffing, the bean remained firmly lodged in her nose.  So Dad had to take her to the ER where an amused doctor used a tiny scapel to dissect and remove the bean.

Other families gather around the thanksgiving table and discuss the blessings of the previous year.  Our family skips right to the good part, telling the stories that have made us laugh over and over.

  • Aren't those family stories great?  Okay, maybe not all of them, but they do have the added incentive of making us cringe when we remember stuff done in our youth, and make us not want to go to  family gatherings where they will be repeated.  Btw, glad the bean came out okay!

  • that is gross ~ but funny

  • Skipping to the good stuff is a great idea...I once stuck a marble up my sister's nose when we were little and it got stuck..eventually she was able to blow it out but it got a little gross in the process. Guess every kid has some story like that about their sibling..hehe! ...Hey, stop by and let me know what you think of the site soon. Hugs!

  • I'm all for skipping to the best stuff....

  • But that's the fun stuff that everyone talks about. I love those kinds of family gatherings. My SIL used to fold up a paper straw wrapper up her nose. She would act like she was picking her nose and everyone was so grossed out by this long thing coming out that no one noticed it wasn't snot.

  • ahhh, the joys of family.  being spread across the internet to millions of others.  And people wonder how I wound up in therapy.

  • You do know she'll tell a story about you next. lol

    Peachy

  • I'm disappointed! The bean didn't sprout? That would explain so many things! And weren't you the one that taught me the truth should never get in the way of a good story?

  • eeeeuuuw
this gives me bad memories of something my daughter had stuck up her nose (not as a joke) at age 2... we never knew what it was, but oh did it ever REEK... UGH

The doctor removed it whole, though.
