  • Cream of Christmas

So, as I’m sitting in the dark (I was afraid to take my sleeping medication before bed because I feared I’d miss out on being alert enough to appreciate what happens here on Christmas Morning) I’m thinking about Christmas Food.  And it’s occurred to me that I don’t think I could make Christmas dinner without a can of Cream of Mushroom soup.  In fact, this year, I’m gonna need three.

    Hm.

When did Cream of Mushroom soup become so important a holiday ingredient that I’d have to cancel dinner without it?

Be honest, did YOU make at least one recipe with Cream of Mushroom soup for your holiday repast?

Tucker was afraid that he would miss out on the excitement too.  He didn’t have the option of staying up all night (not that I’ve done it on purpose) but he solved his problem in his own special way.  He’s sleeping with his presents.  In his bed, under his blankets.

May your Holiday be Merry And Bright!  And may you rest well on Christmas Night.

  • Good morning and Merry Christmas. I hope you slept well so Santa could come down your chimney. (We always told our kids he wouldn’t come if anyone was awake. It worked when they were very little.) And I hope Tucker didn’t roll on his gifts in the night!
And yes, we have Green Bean Casserole every holiday with the necessary Campbell Brand only Cream of Mushroom soup. It’s American!
From reading your past posts, I think your Christmas present this year is President Elect Barack Obama. I hope you get 4, or maybe 8, great years out of this gift.

  • I get to be the oddball. We have so many ethnic recipes that cream of mushroom soup isn’t needed, but I couldn’t make it through a holiday without a box of Tony Chachere’s!

Wishing you and yours the very best Christmas ever!

  • No cream of mushroom soup used here…..but I used cream of chicken a few meals ago.    Does that count?

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  • No cream of mushroom soup here. But I remember when that was a main staple in our house growing up. Merry Christmas to you and yours! (Hope you slept well)

  • Merry Christmas!! (No cream of mushroom soup use here…but I’d be in trouble without sour cream.)

  • Love cream of anything soup!  Happy Holidays to you and your family.  To a successful and healthy 2009!

  • Merry Christmas!  No cream of mushroom soup here, but then I don’t cook if I can help it.

  • @MlleRobillard - Everything’s better with Tony’s!

  • Merry Christmas (& I love just about any dish made with cream of mushroom soup )

  • Merry Happy Holly Jolly!!

  • Cream of Mushroom soup – Yoda likes that green bean cassarole thingy.  Don’t know where she got it because I don’t ‘do’ cassaroles.  So, I made the stuff for her.  She took all the leftovers.  Merry Happy!!!

  • Happy Holidays………hugs.

  • Humm…I don’t cook so I’m not sure. I know you don’t need it for Macaroni and Cheese and Ham which is what I like eating so I’d be good without it.

Merry Christmas to you and your family. I hope you guys have a blessed one and many many more!

  • Nope, not a can.  But we don’t celebrate Christmas, so that could be it.  Didn’t use any at Thanksgiving either.

I did, however, use 1/2 # of butter, 4 eggs, 5 # of flour, and other stuff to make more cardamom bread…mmmmm!

    Happy holidays, Terri & boys!

  • yes’m.  green bean casserole.  every freakin’ year…”lucky, would you bring the green bean casserole?”    sure, it’s what i live for.

so i also took homemade applesauce.  of which more is devoured than the green beans.  you’d think they’d figure it out by now, wouldn’t you?  meh.

  • My sister’s green bean casserole requires the cream of mushroom soup.  I don’t like it and I don’t eat it.  Christmas Eve will always require some kind of seafood in my house, and Christmas is a free-for-all, though me mum’s beef was exquisite.  Happy Holidays – it’s not over yet

  • Hope your Christmas was wonderful.  (No cream of mushroom soup used here)

  • I gave up on canned cream of mushroom soup a while ago, since they all seem to contain MSG or something else I try to avoid.  BUT I still like green bean casserole, so I figured out how to modify it with my own “soup” of sauteed onions & mushrooms, salt/pepper/herbs, and cream or milk – voila!  cream of mushroom soup!

  • And here I thought no holiday was complete without plenty of warm rolls!
