Happy Repeal of Prohibition Day
For 13 years we had an experiment in legislation of morality which lead to rum-running, bathtub booze that caused people to go blind, and the rise of gangsterism.
Did we learn anything from Prohibition?

I think we learned not to try that again.
I had rather hoped we did, but I am wondering.
Now, to this holiday you just declared: I would like to have a margarita party to celebrate!
Think I will go have a drink……………LOL…..
We certainly haven’t learned not to drink and drive.
Sure we did, but we didn’t generalize the concept to abortion, drugs, and other attempts to control immoral behavior.
What did we learn from Prohibition? That my great-uncle was a bootlegger! He’d drive with an empty coffin (Detroit to Windor – he was an undertaker) and return with a full one! Grandma ‘smuggled’ booze in her bosum, because she said no one would dare search a ‘lady.’
Unfortunately, humans in groups tend to learn in the specific, not in the general. So, yes, we learned not to outlaw alcoholic drinks (or most of us did), but we didn’t learn to resist the temptation to outlaw immoral behavior.
I don’t think we learned a damn thing from prohibition. At least not the lawmakers in our society. Look at all the “new drugs” that were officially made illegal in the 60′s and even 70′s! Wouldn’t the world be a better place if addicts and recreational users could just buy their drugs at the pharmacy?! I mean, the government would make money on the taxes, which they could give back to social programs, schools and law enforcement, people who go around robbing and shooting people for their drugs would be more apt to do it at a “store” and actually get caught instead of just having random drive-bys and home robberies.. and the jobs… what about the jobs it could bring in the way of pot farms, legal meth labs instead of basement ones that put the whole community in danger, manufacturing and distribution routes… TONS of things could be better. Not to mention marijuana. I’m not smoking now due to pregnancy, but you can bet Bill Gates’ life savings that once I’m done nursing… I will be back to it. LOL Marijuana is much less harmful to society that alcohol. How many accidents do you hear about because of “stoned drivers”. Stoners usually stay at home and eat or watch TV. They don’t go out joy-riding. If they decide to go somewhere, they are usually over cautious and though it IS also a nervous system depressant, the effects are not as severe and don’t last as long. Health risks to the person are up to the individual anyway, but a person who smokes a pack of cigarettes and drinks two beers a day is actually at MORE risk than a person who smokes pot and nothing else. (my husband’s 2 cents….Repeal Marijuana Prohibition.. THEN we have something to celebrate!) LOL <3 SuZ
How many movies about this time ?
I believe the prohibition has been useless .
