I OBJECT
I OBJECT to objectification. It makes my skin crawl when I hear people arguing (for or against) a woman simply because she's a woman. It makes me feel ill when I hear someone make a racial slur. It makes me angry when I hear someone refer to a poor person by some stereotypical cliche that denies the humanity of those who struggle with poverty.
There's a bumper sticker I see occasionally in traffic and if I were ever going to explode with road rage, I'd ram the bumper of the cars sporting it - it says, "Life is a bitch, don't vote for one" with a picture of Hillary Clinton.
Look I don't care if you like Hillary or not. I don't even care if you agree with her positions or not. But I care very much when someone opposes her (or anyone else) with such a demeaning and objectifying term.
I don't have much of a sense of humor about that.
Nope.
Which is why I just bought this tee-shirt.

good for you!
lol so good
So....McCain saying "that one" while referring to Obama is offensive?
We need to see a pic of you in thatone shirt!
@DawnsEarlyLight - I had to order the shirt, so it will be a few more days before I get it.
The phrase "That One" can be objectifying or not. In the context of the debate, it seemed that McCain was trying to avoid even using a pronoun to refer to Obama and was trying to make him as much an object as possible. It was the objectification that I found offensive.
My feelings are the same as yours. I simply don't understand why people are so hateful/hurtful.
Throughout this entire campaign, I have been either lectured to or belittled by people who pretend to be knowledgeable about the nastiness of political campaigns, and who have accused me of naivete for daring to hope that this particular political season might be a few shades this side of outright nasty.
Sigh. I hate to be "proved" naive. Just for hoping.
Ah, but there's good news. My reward will not be "in heaven," as the GOP vice-presidential candidate is wont to say. It's going to be right here on earth, on Nov. 5 and for at least eight years thereafter.
YEAH, What twoberry said!
It's weird watching the Grouchy Oldmen Party implode...
The pendulum swung too far to the right, and now they are judged to be WRONG.
Or they will be in 25 days
