  • The Last Lecture

This is a 76 minute video.  Not everyone will make time for it, and that's okay,  I'm telling you up front so you'll know that you need to have enough time to watch it through to the end.  This is the Last Lecture of Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon who has done amazing things with virtual reality.

This 47 year old was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, and at the time told that he had 3-6 months to live.  He's still fighting that fight as of today.  He took the opportunity to give this one last lecture to sum up his life and work and pass on what he believes to be important to his students, friends, and family.

If you knew you only had a few months left to live ... what would you say?

I'll tell you something I got from watching this.  My dreams have been too small.

  • I am going to be sure to watch this when I get home in the morning. I have a better computer connection there. One of the things I like best about cancer patients is their view of life.

I will get back with you later.

  • Yes! I play a little scrabulous...

Ack! It's already tomorrow! How did that happen?!?

  • Another Xanga friend recommended this too, so I will watch it!

In answer to your question...I have always tried to tell people EVERY day how I feel about them....I tell them I love them...and what they mean to me. I try, daily, to communicate my beliefs and feelings with people. So, I guess I would just say a few more "i love you"'s and remind them how very much they mean to me and encourage them to reach for the stars, because life is way too short. We are so blessed to have life and it's a shame how many people waste theirs. Well...I've much more to say...but it's late...and I'm too verbose.

Hugs and Happy Friday to you! I'm so glad I found you on here!

  • How's your pain body? Mine is a fucking screaming banshee.

I watched this guy on Oprah. It broke my heart. I'll have to find the time to watch this lecture....and I will! Soon!

  • It ' s incredible what this man does , Terri.  His behavior is right but I am not sure I will have such a courage . My DIL dead recently showed such a courage until the extrem end .
Death is really a deep mystery like life and love .( cf your previous post )
    Love

    mICHEL

  • I will have to come back later... stop by and remind me in case I forget...

  • Her pain-body is a banshee.  Funny.  Seen this before -powerful.  I agree with mICHEL, I would not have the courage to say much more than - goodbye.

  • My dad recommended I look this guy up, so thanks for the reminder.  It was 76 minutes well spent.

  • I think all of his students had a great prof with this guy!

  • my girlfriend died in 2006 if liver cancer and I just can't watch it but maybe some day

  • I can't watch it at work and my connection is too slow at home...guess I'll have to read his book instead.

  • I hope to have time... soon.

MOST people's dreams are too small, methinks.

  • i would tell everyone to eat more chocolate!

  • Hi I love my craft room and one day I will invite

you over and you can come in and play sometime.

My brother died last year of cancer and went

around and told everyone he loved them.

  • Unfortunately, I don't have time to watch the video, but I love the idea.  It's cool that he made a point of passing on his knowledge like that.
Dreams should always be big I think. You just can't let yourself be too tied to success or failure.  Always aim above the mark!
