  • I love Dawn

    DSC03317

It's one of the many perks of being an early riser.  The view from my bedroom window is often breathtaking in the early hours as the sun rises over the prairie.  I have one week of these views left then I'm moving to the other side of the mountain.  I'll be going where the sunsets are spectacular and light up the pink granite of the mountains so they look like watermelons in the late evening rays.  That's where they get their name, Sandia being the Spanish word for watermelon.  I'll be living just below the Sandia peaks.

My cousin, Tim who used to live in Albuquerque has been visiting Colorado Springs for the past week.  We discovered quickly that the apartments he lived in are directly across the street from the apartments I'll be moving into.  He's told me that he loved living there, given me tips about his favorite places and things to do in Alb, and I'm ready to explore based on his suggestions.

This weekend is going to be a big one for me.  My best friend has already braced for the fact that I'm likely to wear myself completely out with the packing and is ready to deal with the whining that will follow.  I'm really lucky to have the friends I have.

I've packed backward this time.  I usually start with the stuff I absolutely cannot live without and then about halfway through I start donating stuff that seems like too much trouble to Goodwill.  This year I started the donations first.  So now I have a whole bunch of stuff about which there is no question, it has to be packed and it has to fit on the truck.

I've gone over my budget for this move and then double checked it for a 10th 11th and 12th time.  If I'm right and I've thought of everything, I have exactly $15 more in my savings account than I'm actually going to need.  How's that for a comfortable margin!

Comfy or not, I'm ready to ride off into the light of the setting sun.

  • I've been to Albu... Albe... Albuqur.... yea, that place.  Tis pretty.   Bon voyage!

  • Neat post - you start with the sunrise and end with the sunset. Good luck in your move.

  • I love dawn, too. But the sad reality is that I'm a lazy slog who claims to "not be a morning person", and therefore misses out on it. One of my fondest memories of the southwest was sitting in the observation car of Amtrak's Southwest Chief, watching the sun rise and set behind the mesas.

  • I once lived in Albuq.  It is beautiful and lives up to the name "Land of Enchantment".  I remember the mountains turning from lavender to blue and other shades as the sun was going down in the sky.  Wishing you well on your move. Blessings.

  • There's nothing like a move to help you get rid of stuff that's really not necessary.  The hard part is seeing it and reminding yourself why you want it.  Good luck with the move!

  • Being a morning person I've enjoyed dawns as well. But the mountains and early morning meditation schedules have changed my enjoyment from ocular to heartular.

  • Don't get too tired packing. I am so proud of you doing this move. So exciting your cousin is close by. Judi

  • Gorgeous pics of the sky! I might have to post some I took after we had a storm here that left us with a similar looking sky. Our skies aren't normally that beautiful but once in awhile we do have some really gorgeous sunsets. It's just very hard to see them for all the trees we have on our property!

Good luck with the move and I can't even imagine being able to put all we own into one truck load. But then we've been married 40 years! It would take me at least a month of hard work just to pack AFTER I got rid of everything we didn't really want or need. I did call a moving company a few years back when we got bit by the bug to move back to town. They said it would take 6 people working 12 hour shifts-4 days to pack everything. And those are professionals! Yep, you have too much stuff once you've been married as long as we have, I suppose.

I am very happy to know you've already found a great place to live and tips on all the neat and good places to go. Please keep us posted on how everything goes when you have time.

Don't work too hard but have a safe move and God bless!

  • You'll be trading Dawn for the other end of the day...
