  • I'm Thinking About it ...

The kids have been asking for a pet.  They would like to have a cat, but we live in an apartment complex that doesn't allow cats or dogs.  We can only have an animal that lives in a cage.  I've been dragging my feet because I'm not really thrilled about taking on the responsibility for cleaning up after a little beast.

    But ...

    I'm thinking ...

I like the idea of a guinea pig, it's a little larger than a hamster, so I'm picturing it as being more of a pet.  But hamsters have REALLY cool cages....

I'll be shopping today, mostly to make a decision about what kind of animal I'll be getting.  I'll pick up the cage, the supplies, the support stuff.  When the kids get out of school at 2:30, I'll take them to the store.  I'd like to give them the option to choose the animal in question.  Maybe . . . if I fall in love with a critter while I'm out this morning, I may just make that call.

Have you made your donation to the Red Cross or Salvation Army?
    We have.

  • Guinea pigs are fun...and I hear they are good eatin too.

My daughter had a pet rat and she loved it.  They are very smart and affectionate, but like all this little rodents, you have to be vigilant about keeping them and their cage clean.  Of course you could use that as a carrot and stick, like we did..."if you don't keep him/her/it clean, you can't hold or play with him/her/it."

  • I HATE hamsters.  Don't even get me started on all the stories I could tell you regarding my hamster experiences.  We will suffice to stay that I was once driven from my home and forced to sleep in my parents van for a week by a hamster.   Spawn of satan if you ask me ......

  • Awww.....that's so sweet that your boys  had vacuumed, cleaned, straightened up their room!  They are wonderful little men.  Good luck shopping for your new friend.

Yes, we've made our donation, too.

  • And yes, we donated through my wife's company, who matched each employee contribution at 100%.

  • Virtual pets is the way to go...and those kids really get into it

The Salvation Army is giving 100% of their donations to the cause...the Red Cross almost ALWAYS take a kickback

  • People with pets have fewer heart attacks and get less depressed than those without, but pets make more work. The pros probably outweigh the cons. If the boys continue doing their chores it would be a win/win situation. It's worth it to share in the joy and happiness pets bring.

  • You're going to have vermin as a pet?

  • Ferrets are fun!  They're really smart, cage-sized, but can be let out to run around and play, and sooooo cute.

  • ....although I guess guinea pigs are cute too

  • Gunea Pigs are cool pets, but be warned, they whistle when they're lonely or bored, often at night.

  • HAMSTER HAMSTER HAMSTER!!!!!  Then, we can get Tucker to teach it to do its very own "hamster dance"!!!!

Besides, do you really want a rodent named as a cross between a bird and a "murder evidence disposal'?

  • Yea, guinea pigs are fun and they actually have some personality.  Just remember the lil critters are nocturnal... those dang wheels are REALLY LOUD at 3am!

Once you've been hit, you have to hit 8 beautiful people.  If you get hit again, you'll know you're really beautiful.  If you break the chain, you'll still be beautiful in my eyes.  Hit whoever you think is BEAUTIFUL!

  • Guinea pig for sure. Not so big as to cost a fortune, but big enough to catch when the kids let them out. Mike

    P.S. Yes.
