Slow Down
Take a Deep Breath
Focus
Prioritize
There are NO Emergencies
Speed Kills
Easy Gets it Done
Speed creates an illusion of invincibility. After all, it takes real POWER to propel our selves, our families, our ideas, our projects at the speed of sound. Surely, travelling at such a high velocity, I'm unstoppable. I'm SUPER-woman.
Except, I'm not. I'm not made to move that way through the world, or through my life. When I take a deep breath and give myself permission to just DO it and not pay any attention to the clock, two things happen. First of all - I get it done. And secondly, I get it done faster than when I stress myself and push myself and fly right past the mark.
That's the thing about traveling fast. It takes a longer time to correct the course than traveling slow. By the time I see the exit - I'm past it. And then I have to turn around and waste all that time I saved going so fast getting back to the destination I missed.
Worse, travelling fast, my vehicle vibrates to an unnatural rhythm and without frequent expensive maintenance it flies apart at the seams. So much better to sit on my beach and blow bubbles on purpose, than sit in the psych unit and finger paint because I had a breakdown.

True enough! Seems when we try and hurry, we miss something that brings us back a few steps!
Hey now... I sit on the beach, blow spit bubbles and make sand castles all the time! What are you saying here Lady??
*Evil Grin*
Sail on... sail on!!!
I like the "vibrating to an unnatural rhythm. I do that too -- and so does my actual vehicle, worse luck. Yep. Important point. And love that seascape!!
Dread - I'm saying that you are a wise man.
Oh what a day for me to read this -- our first day of school.
You are SO right on this, and I do forget and push and pull at times, and those are the times that we ALL break down. We spend more time fighting on those days that we would going slowly through the work. Today was a good day. Here's to hoping that I remember your wise words and continue to have decent ones in the future.
Must be nice to have patience...I want it done yesterday. LOL
I like tortoises. I may come back as one - if Julie also wants to.

That is so true... it is too bad it takes so much time and wasted 'fuel' until we reach the point where we realize it!

Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite songs, the 59th Street Bridge Song (Simon & Garfunkel).
"Slow down, you move to fast...you gotta make the morninglast"
Very true. Life has too much to offer to rush through it.
hey...nice site, props
Like Alabama sings:
I'm in a hurry to get things done
I rush and rush until life's no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die but
I'm in a hurry and don't know why.
Ah. The human experience of life in 2003.
I like slowing down

When I give my attention to working with a child, my time stands still and I enter into their life time stream. I'll be in my grave in a few years, but the time I spent teaching a child to sew, cook, make music, will live on for years to come. Blessings.
What? You're not Super Woman? Well I bet that blows a lot of guy's kinky fantasies out of the water.
My father used to say that there is more to life than increasing it's speed. Of course, he is slow as molasses so it only makes sense.
i agree with what you say, although such is hard for me to do...i am always rushing and hurrying to get things done...in the few times i manage to be early or do something ahead of time, i don't know what to do with myself, or the extra time..so....i find myself rushing around looking for something else to do!
beautiful calendar!!
So true...! It seems now a days that everyone goes so much faster....Great blog!
RE: YOU...

I recently have adopted the daily ritual of beginning the day with a leisurely walk on the backroads towards the ocean or the forest paths towards the natural springs. Either direction I go I focus on the journey not the destination. Doing this is teaching me a great deal about my relationship to the Earth. I actually feel the energy of the land beneath my feet and it is such a loving energy. We take for granted many things when we are focused always on the future, at what is at the other end of our journey. We miss the love that is all around us, just waiting for us to pay attention to it.

Excellent blog! I always try to remind myself that Georgia O'Keefe's statement about it taking time to really see a flower, which always implied to me that taking the time to do things properly and at a sane pace was worth the time it took.
So true. We tend toward handling the urgent as opposed to the important. "Don't sweat the small stuff."

Excellent blog. Good reminder for us all.
I love this entry! I hope you don't mind that i linked it to my home blog (http://www.rigdonia.com/dana -adding address because it is not at xanga). It was the third in a series of God stops for me, which are always nice to get!
