  • I Won

For some reason this summer we've had a hard time getting a good family day.  Either the lawn needs to be mowed, or someone doesn't feel well, or maybe even there's a bit of emotional tension around the edges of paradise.  And so we wind up spending that obligatory hour together, but then we break apart to our individual interests with some relief and the happy thought that we've done our part.

But, this weekend we finally had a day that clicked for everyone.  We spent some time shopping with the kids.  While we were in one store, a huge thunderstorm blew up and for a time the power was off.  Thanks to good building design and skylights, there was still plenty of light to see so instead of heading out in a panic, we browsed with the kids.  We tried out things we would have walked quickly past under other circumstances.  We had fun.

After the shopping, we watched a video with the kids - popcorn all around.  Michael, ever the sceptic, was pretty sure that he wouldn't like the film "Agent Cody Banks".  Then he laughed all the way through, at one point he was laughing so hard, he missed a part and asked us to replay it.  Then he got laughing so hard he missed it again.  When the movie was over he gave it a "3" so he wouldn't have to admit that he'd liked it.

Finally, it was time for the big event.  The moment Tucker had been waiting for all day long.  We got out the Mousetrap game.  He gets so excited he can't sit in his chair.  He has to "test" the trap at ever stage.  And finally we get down to the part where the mice get in "danger."  We played a couple rounds through the danger zone and then he and Michael both landed under the trap at the same time.  That was too much for Tucker.  He sprang the trap on himself just for the fun of "catching" two mice at once.   So I won.

I won the game by default, and I won the day by grace.  It was great.

  • It sounds wonderful!  I am so glad you all had such a great day.  I also loved the Cody Banks movie..it's a must see.  :)

  • You know, I never had that game as a kid, my friends did though - and one day I decided to make my own... I used a stapler, a tin can, a pencil cup and stuffed animals LOL Not quite as good but I did always win

I am glad it was a very wonderful weekend!!!

  • We played games yesterday too! Guess what. I won also. I am the Care Bears Sharing is Caring Champ!

It is a great feeling when you just get lost in the moment and everyone laughs. I love those moments.

  • At our house, we play Cranium. It's a hoot!

  • Yay!   I love those days when things *click* like that.  My daughter is dying to see "Agent Cody Banks" ... I'm sure it's next on the list.

  • We had that day that clicked the weekend we went to Duluth.  It was while Xanga was down, so I still need to blog it, but it was a rare day in this family.

    Congratulations on yours, too.

  • ah...win/win days.  they're too few and too far between.  i'm glad you got one.
    you are the winnah!

  • Chalk one up for winning with the family.

  • What a great day! I'm glad you all got along so well, and had a good time. I absolutly love it when days fall into place like that. SOmeitmes I think the harder I try the worse it is, and the times I just let things be the better it is.

  • Isn't the perfect family-time such a blessing?!  And of course -- it's always icing on the cake when you win.

  • Mousetrap?!  Oh man!  I need to go shopping and get me a Mousetrap game!

  • Oh, I love when that happens  -- that clicking thing.  Those things are impossible to plan or force.  You just have to make the time and space for them and wait.  Cheers to you, Mom.  Glad you guys enjoyed it all.

  • Sometimes it all comes together. Glad you had a wonderful day.

  • Enjoy them while you can, we seldom see any "family" days anymore.  o/

  • That sounds like a wonderful day to me.....I remember when my mom and dad would take us for drives on the weekend and we would maybe have enough money for an ice cream cone.....and the time spent together was just wonderful.....

    What a memory to cherish!

  • bonjour comment t'apelle tu

  • I'm so glad you had a good family day.  Also, I do believe you are up for mother of the year for playing Mousetrap.  Only the best of mother's play Mousetrap!  You are a cocoa goddess.

  • I've never played the mousetrap game... shopping in dim light mus be fun.

  • I miss the silly giggles of times when our family played games, when my kids WERE kids instead of HAVING kids.  Though I have been enjoying their little ones a lot lately, I have ooodles of memories of them being little in my house and the times we shared like your story here.  Precious memories...*sigh*

Also, I have been behind from not being able to get online for a while and have been playing catch up, but I have read back a few days and still am lost about the 'cocoa goddess' comment.  Could ya 'splain pweeze?

    HuGs and love,

  • nice xanger...propz

  • Wow!  What a perfect day!  You know we have to sit back and appreciate these times in our lives because they just don’t come often enough!

  • I didn't know they still made Mouse Trap. What a great game.  We still have an occasional game night, when the kids are around.

  • When Terri wins, EVERYONE wins.......

  •   Oh, good!

  • good times are great times

  • it really sounds nice. i haven't had a family day since i was around 7. heh. dysfunctional whatnot.

i'm glad you guys had fun though.

  • Oh my goodness, I remember Mousetrap from wayyyy back...I haven't seen that in a while.  Reading about your family day makes me smile; I'm 18 and don't get along with my parents well (what obstinate teenager does?) but I do remember the days when we'd sit down and spend a day together...I'm doing my best to try to get back to that and a story like this one only encourages me more.  Thanks for making me smile today.

  • A great family day heats the heart and renews the links .

    Love                  Michel

  • sounds like you had one of those "windshield" days to me!

  • Well I should divulge you must be accurate as forever
