  • Weekend Wonderings

I've been thinking about all kinds of things lately.  I mentioned some of them on Verona's site earlier this week and said that I would blog about them, but for some reason the thoughts on that subject will not coalesce so I'm putting that one off rather than force it.

Several of you asked about the age of my little chef wanna be.  Michael just had his ninth birthday.  The first batch of jam didn't turn out so well, but the batch we did last night is fabulous.  Michael's biscuits were good, but we cheated.  I showed him how to make them using bisquick mix instead of totally from scratch.  I figure, he's nine.  There's time to work up a bit.

It's looking damp and overcast outside, which changes the plans I had for today from "mow the yard" to "I don't know what I'm going to do now."  I got my house completely cleaned yesterday, so I'm free to pretty much do what I want, I hate that.  I have a half dozen projects that could use attention.  So many choices just freeze my brain, I can't pick.

Ah, well.  If that's all I have to complain about, I have it pretty good.  Have a wonderful day everyone.

  • He sounds so cute. I'm glad Your jam worked and respect the part of You that tried again when the first batch failed. Many people would have said "forget it." Have a restful weekend.

  • NINE! I can't even make biscuits using Bisquick! If they don't come from a can, wait I don't do those too well either. He will be a chef at this rate before he is a teenager!

  • Aw, your little chef is learning lots.  I don't think you were cheating on the biscuits, you are being resourceful.  He sounds like a charming little guy. Wonder where he gets it? Have a great weekend!

  • I have ideas.. but that is as far as they have gotten.. little blurbs written down for hopeful posts - I do hope you have a great weekend and find your thoughts gelling together soon

  • Mmm...biscuits and jam...sounds yummy!

  • WRITE, woman!  And do it for YOU!

  • Projects to choose from... Betcha you end up doing something new altogether!

  • You should like make notecards and write the things you have to do on one side, shuffle them and turn them face down, then pick one.  You could even make them pretty notecards and write with different colored markers and what-not, you know, exercise that creative side in coloring when you can't get those thoughts together

  • you mean to say that making them from Bisquick ISN'T making them from scratch?

  • mmmmmm...what kind of jam is it??

  • Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I really appreciated it. Did you find anything to do? Personally, I love when I don't have any plans...like this afternoon. I had nothing to do, so I rented a Sex in the City DVD and watched the whole thing. It was so much fun. Just me and my movie. -Kate

  • Whoa! New look! I'm probably late in noticing, but it looks good!

I think it's great when kids are interested in cooking. I'm sure he'll grow up to be a fabulous chef, and the girls will be scrambling for his attention. Women love a man who can cook.

  • I think it is great that you can pass down such great techniques and family recipes....I wish I had paid more attention to how my grandmother cooked her meals and i need to go to my moms with the fixings and make her teach me....

Take care and I hope you have a good rest of the weekend!!!

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes, I heard a long time ago when Siqorney Weaver was doing Ghost Busters 2 and some asked, "Isn't it difficult doing love scenes with Bill Murry?"  She replied, "No, we women fall in love with the men that make us laugh."

  • Hey! Great new look. Very unique. It's amazing all of the different personalities and how they express themselves. So, you are saying that your nine year old makes buscuits and Jam? Puts me to shame~That is so cool how you encourage him. Peace and Blessings

  • Wow.  9!  My son will be nine in a few weeks.  And he can only pour cereal and milk.  My hat is off to the Chef!!!
