So THAT'S What I've Been Doing Wrong ~
I forgot my list. Everyday I start with a list of things to do. It follows me around nagging me and pushing me all day. Then in a final triumphant flourish, it makes me feel guilty for the things I didn't get done. Today, I flat out forgot it. Just now I had a moment of panic. What if I forgot something really important?!? So I made a list of the things I've actually done today.
1. made bed
2. made kids make their bed
3. made breakfast
4. walked for 30 minutes on treadmill
5. unpacked my suitcase
6. unpacked kids' suitcase
7. started laundry
8. vacuumed living room (with at least 20 minutes spent picking up stuff in floor so I could vacuum)
9. switched laundry
10. made lunch
11. cleaned kitchen
12. folded first load of laundry
13. called about reservations for trip to Pensacola in June
I've been doing it all backward! Instead of a "to do" list in the morning, I need a "Ta-DAH!" list in the evening. I'm feeling so goooooood right now, I'm not even feeling the slightest bit of guilt for being on Xanga in the middle of the afternoon.

Probably more accurate, though.
I've done lists before and a lot of times it makes me feel overwhelmed right from the start. I like your idea much better.
I like your idea.
I should try it with my school work.
heh...
Outstanding work shipmate! Welcome to the world of self motivation!!!!!
Sail on... sail on!!!!
That's brilliant, maybe we should all do something like that to keep from feeling guilty! Every weekend I think, "Oh, I did nothing" (isn't that what a weekend is for?!), and then on Sunday night I have to think, "Well, I quilted the last Trout piece...I put the laundry away...I took two 4-mile hikes..." and it puts it all in perspective.
OMG! I have often thought this very idea myself! Some days I've worked all day but haven't crossed off anything from my list. You're right............make the list at the end of the day

Sounds you could use a xanga break. I hope you enjoyed it.
Peachy
I like that idea a "Ta-DAH!" list.
Tah-da! list is such a great idea!! Now, if only I could actually accomplish things to put on the list...

Great idea!! I think even I could manage to keep up something like that. I used to try to make a "to-do" list every morning, but generally managed to lose it somewhere in the process of completing the first task
Thanks for the comments and thanks for all the warm fuzzies re: Q and my wedding
Peace,
Bri
hmmmm...a "TA-DAH!" list sounds wonderful; much better than feeling bad when I don't complete everything on my "to-do" list. Thanks for the idea.
LOl Good idea, the pirate likes it twice as much looks like!
I need a 'not-to-do' list !
I love it! I always get depressed when I don't do everything on the list. I think I'll start a ta-dah list from now on!
That's way more than I managed to get done today.
Ta-DAH! EProps for the Ta-DAH! list idea.
Hey this is cute
No wonder you don't feel guilty for taking a few moments to relax...sounds like you've been working all day!
That's a good idea. I should try that, then when my bf says you didn't do anything to day, I can pull out my list and prove him wrong.
Ta-didafrickinglottoday-Da!
I like it!
I haven't been by in a while, so was skimming through your blogs, which really isn't possible because your blogs are too thought-provoking to be able to skim them. I keep on hoping that maybe after the semester is finished....
Anyway, you did a lot. I would love to have a day as productive as that. If I don't write my To Do list out I will forget something vital, like a bill that needs to be paid. Granted, sometimes it's after 10:00 at night before I get a quiet moment to sit down and set the day's priorities!
I have heard your approach recommended for dealing with the blues. Specifically, this was discussed in a support group that I attended once for the un- and under- employed. I was the only woman in attendance. All the men were accustomed to going out in the workplace and now that they were at home they found it very easy to get down because they felt like they weren't doing anything. However, some would list all the things that they had done--like making breakfast, vacuuming, etc.--and would realize that indeed they hadn't wasted the day.
For myself, I often keep a record of how I'm spending my time. Sometimes I am surprised to go back and realize that even though I feel like I didn't get anything done, it isn't always because I've wasted time...sometimes its because the day has just been so busy with survival (washing dishes, preparing food, eating).
