  • I Do LOVE The South ~

Yesterday morning the boys and I went to the hospital to peek in on Mom.  We didn't stay long enough for Tucker to call the nurse more than three times and we only had to crank the bed back down from maximum height twice.  Then we stopped at the grocery for milk on the way back to my parent's house.  I was met at hte door by a smiling Assistant Manager, he held the door for me with a flourish (we both pretended we didn't know it was automatic).  The he said, "beautiful day?"

When I nodded and smiled, he put his hand to his heart and said, "The day pales beside your smile."  And exactly the balm I needed to get over my unpleasant experience last Friday with the WalMart clerk.

Mom browbeat the doctor into letting her come home last night.  The tests revealed no physical abnormality that could have caused the symptoms she suffered.  My Dad's opinion is that she has been under acute prolonged stress/anxiety and that caused her problem.

Whatever the cause, she's home now and we are watching her closely.  I'll stay at least until this weekend and most probably a second week just to give extra time for her to rest and recover.  If she continues to do well, maybe Dad can take her for a couple nights to a spa in Hot Springs or something.

    Children of Spice

I was able to watch Children of Dune on the sci fi channel last night.  It's not as well done as the first installment of the series.  (I thought)  There were too many scenes without explanation of what was happening or why.  I've read the series mutliple times and I was still sitting there saying I don't remember why that happened, I'm not sure who that was in answer to fugitive's questions.  My Mom's opinion, "Those worms are just disturbing.  I don't know why anyone would want to watch such mess as that," pretty much reassured us that she's back to her normal self.  I'm sure I'll buy the DVD - after all I have the first one, it would be a shame not to have the set.

Anyone else have a different opinion on the series?  Come on, what did you think?

  • glad your mom is doing okay, T.

We taped the Dune show-- have not yet watched it. 'Heard from someone that it was pretty unintelligible though, but that the production values were great.

have a good time with your family there.

  • My DH like the Dune books but has not been able to stomach any of the movie renderings.  At best, those worms are disturbing, LOL!  Glad "Mom" is doing better... she'll prolly really get better now that she is home.  Stress = ickies!  It can do bad thangz to ya!

FYI, your goodies are in en route.  I mailed them yesterday!

  • Very good news about your Mom. Stress is not good at all, for anyone. I haven't seen the show, I read the book many years ago...wish I got sci-fi channel to see it!

  • I've never read the books and the few moments of the show that I saw just confused me.  I changed channels and ended up on good 'ole "Law & Order" reruns!

  • Holy Neptune! I think that was one fresh clerk! And does your hubby know about your ‘relationship’ with craktpot? About you and the clerk? About you the clerk and craktpot? You are just breaking bad all over the place!!!

    Sail on.. sail on!!!

  • I hope your mom gets better fast.

  • So glad your Mom is doing better!!    Read Dune many times; never saw it.....

  • That was sweet about the greeter.  Things like that really do make a day worth living.

  • So glad to hear that your mom is doing better, I have been praying for her.

I havent seen the movie yet, but you have inspired me to see them both :)

    Blessings to you today!

  • I have never read the dune books. but for the movie I am a faithful watcher...and I love it.....yes I agree that there have been times that it seemed as thought the movie was "lost" in something but all in all i love the way it has been produced....but that is my opinion....

  • Hmmm...I didn't bother to watch the new installment last night, but I did catch much of the first (new) one when they showed it a while back.  I thought they remade Muad'Dib in the manner of the new, popular action hero: macho, rude, and arrogant.  No offense if you liked it, and it had other things in its favor, but I think that in some ways the craftsmanship of interpretation in the original movie (the one from the 80s) was better, even if they messed around with the events a bit.

  • A day at the spa....ahhhh.  Good medicine for the spirit, as long as she continues whatever other types the doctors prescribe, of course.  Sounds like a willful woman, your mom.  Hope she continues to improve.

  • glad to hear your mom is doing better

  • I'm glad your mom is home.  My son was watching that same movie and invited me to join him.  I couldn't follow it and soon lost interest, but I'm not much of a sci fi person.

  • I am very glad she is doing well!!

As for Dune, I stand by my opinion that the original Movie with Kyle McLauglin and Sting was the best. The Sci Fi version was ok, I did like many of the special effects and what nots... I dont have cable anymore so I didnt see the Chidlren of..  but I never finished that last of the first series. It didn't keep my attention.

  • I agree with Christy.  I liked the first movie better.  I didn't care much for the SCi Fi Channel version.  I haven't watched Children of Dune.  Of course I've read the whole series of books and loved them.  I just think its hard to capture the essence of a book like Dune in a movie or even a miniseries.

  • I had such high hopes for this show as well, but I lost interest after the first 30 minutes. I kept going back to it, hoping it would get better...but I gave up. Such potential there, down the drain.

  • Don't ya just love the south?  I love it when a stranger opens the door for ya and then you get a flirt out of the deal!  Glad to hear your mother is doing better and at home.

  • I love the South too *sigh*.  I can't comment about Dune - I've never read it and I only saw the movie with Sting in it and that was many years ago.

I hope your mom feels better fast!!

  • I guess I need to read the story, cuz I was just lost.  Bobby tells me its more book like than the remake done in the 80s.  I only got to see the episode last night, though, so I'm sure lost isn't such a bad thing.

  • I was not aware it is on TV (My Hubby does all the picking) But I read all the books - just loved the series.
Glad to hear your Mom is OK and nothing serious was wrong.

  • o/

    God Bless - Dale
