Trying Times -
I'm having a major problem with my modem-server relationship. I have a dial-up modem. I'm too far from the switching center for a DSL and there is no cable on this country lane. I've looked into Satellite, but it flat out costs way more than I can afford. So for the past several weeks I've been getting connect speeds of 2600, 4000, 6400 and the like. At that pathetic rate it takes ages for each of your pages to load, which means that my commenting is way down. I've tried to visit several sites today and had them time out before they load.
The phone repairman is coming out tomorrow to see if there is something that can be done to my phone line that will clear things up. Frankly, I'm expecting a big bill for not much (if any) difference.

hope things are able to be worked out to bring your speed back to a respectable level
Are you sure it's the dialup? I have a cable modem but yesterday xanga was slo-o-o-o-w even with it. A couple of times I times out and was ready to give up then it would respond quickly again for a couple of pages and then slow down again. o/

God Bless - Dale
I have DSL here....and fought with the phone idiots for TWO MONTHS because every time I turned around, I kept getting disconnected!!
They finally sent a DSL specialist out to the house, who stated we should never have been sold the service, given the phone line setup on our street!!!!
They cancelled the service, refunded our payments, fixed the line, & reinstated it. It's worked fine ever since.
I have cable too, and Xanga is loading slowly. Timed out on many pages.
Oh! *hugs* I have dialup too. The spousal unit refuses to spring for a cable hookup so here we are. I know what it's like to time out again and again. Ugh.
Bummer. With dial-up, some pages are just too tiring to visit anyway... they just take too much time to load! I sure am happy with my cable!
as long as i do not miss the pleasure of reading you, i am a happy camper.
I'd CROAK at speeds like that!
My sympathies!!!
